The most common questions we get from our clients
Pre-Tan Care
Do’s:
- Exfoliate thoroughly 24 hours before your spray tan, paying special attention to areas like elbows, knees, and ankles. Use a gentle exfoliating mitt or scrub to remove dead skin for an even tan.
- Shave or wax at least 24 hours before your tan to allow your pores to close, preventing dark spots.
- Moisturize the night before your appointment, focusing on dry areas. Avoid using moisturizers the day of the tan, as they can create a barrier.
- Wear loose, dark clothing and flip-flops to your appointment to prevent rubbing or staining after your tan.
- Remove makeup, deodorant, perfumes, and lotions before your tan. These can interfere with the tanning solution and cause unevenness.
Don’ts:
- Don’t exfoliate or shave immediately before your appointment as it can leave the skin too sensitive and open.
- Avoid applying any products (like lotion or perfume) the day of your tan. These can cause streaks or patches.
- Don’t wear tight clothes or bras immediately after your tan, as this can create lines or rub the tan off in areas.
Post-Tan Care
Do’s:
- Wait the recommended time before showering (usually 8-12 hours for a standard tan, or 1-5 hours for a rapid rinse). Follow your technician’s instructions carefully.
- Shower with lukewarm water and avoid scrubbing your skin. Guide the tan off, using your hands only. Pat yourself dry with a towel instead of rubbing.
- Moisturize daily to keep your skin hydrated, which helps prolong your tan. Use a tan-friendly moisturizer without alcohol or heavy fragrances.
- Use a sulfate-free body wash to keep your tan intact. Harsh soaps can strip your tan faster.
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. Healthy, hydrated skin helps the tan last longer and fade more evenly.
Don’ts:
- Avoid long hot showers, baths, saunas, and pools, as these can cause your tan to fade faster.
- Don’t scratch, exfoliate or scrub your skin while your tan is developing or after it’s set, as it will cause the tan to fade unevenly.
- Avoid tight clothing and excessive sweating within the first 24 hours after your tan to avoid streaking or fading.
- Don’t use products that contain alcohol, retinol, or AHAs as these will strip your tan quickly.
By following these tips, your spray tan will develop beautifully and last longer!
